His bed was nice. It was one of his favorite places, except for at night. He felt shame for being so old too, a 14 year old boy being afraid of the dark. He got up from his bedside he looked out the window and saw the sky's orange hue and looked back at the floor. He thought about the sunset and how it shined over the pine trees that towered. The clouds caught his mind and he imagined the light orange tufts swirling around gracefully.

His nerves burned and died in an instant, thoughts being snatched from his head as his mother called for him, "Grey sweetie, it's time for bed!" his mother called from downstairs. An obedient sigh left his mouth and he went to his bed "Yes, mother!" he called back but not in a rebelious tone, just loudly so that she could hear his confirmation that he was going to go to bed. He took off his jeans and put on a pair of pyjama pants and left his pants neatly lain over the hand rail that went with the stairs that went directly up to his room. A door opened and closed. It was the door to the stairs, his mother walked up the stairs and he saw her come up and over to his bed. He got into his bed when he heard her footsteps, she came over to his bedside and sat in a wooden chair that lingered next to the bedside table.

Her lips squeezed together tightly, "You think you'll be okay tonight?" she asked with the tone of an over worried mother. He nodded remembering the night before that consisted of panic attacks and a bucket of sweat, his hands were already slightly moist. "Uhh.. yeah. I'll be okay." he told her trying to give her confidence but only came out as half-hearted words that were followed by a nervous chuckle. She smiled "You are as brave as your father. So I think you'll be just fine." she said and kissed his forehead and he laid back into his bed looking up at the ceiling. She started to say something but stopped but then started up again, Grey looked over "Yes. Very brave.  Good night." she said with a kiss again and turned off his bedside lamp and left the room with soft footsteps down the stairs and a open and shut of a door. They echoed in his head, at least he wanted to keep the echoes, so that he would not have to listen to the silence but it was too late for the silence laid over his room and he closed his eyes. Dull fluoresent lights that came in a variety of red, purple, and blue were litering his shut eyelids. They were nonsensible shapes that were ununiform. They kept him from sleep but they left his sleepless eyes and then he felt peace and slept.

The morning light shined through his window, shining on him and his bed. He got up from his bed and felt great as he stretched his arms and legs. Grey got up from his bed and went down the stairs eagerly but slowly. The door to the stairs opened and Grey came out from the door and looked to his left and saw the kitchen. Someone was at kitchen table, his hair was black and his skin brown, that a shade of milk chocolate. The person's voice was muffled but was easily a male's voice, he was dressed in a dark blue coat that looked very comfortable, he also wore a pair of dark khaki cargo shorts accompanied by sandals that seemed to be older fashioned. A quiver loaded with arrows was leaned next to the kitchen chair, the fletchings were golden and had a beautiful sheen to them. Grey's mother looked from in front of the man and looked to see Grey, "Oh honey! I'd like for you to meet someone." she said cheerily. The man turned his head but just enough to where he could see his ears and nothing more until darkness descened upon him.

He awoke in a pool of sweat or what seemed to be sweat as told by his mother, it was obviously urine but he knew no better. The noise was pots and pans, crashing onto the floor. Then a loud crash and the house shook but did not fall. He raced down the stairs and noticed his jeans were gone from the stair handrail, probably being washed by his mother. The door swung open and he looked into the kitchen but it was demolished. The kitchen table was broken into pieces along with the chairs and the cabniets were broken into. The most obvious of damages was a giant hole in the wall where the front door was. He tip toed over around the corner and peeped to see his mother held by the neck and pushed against the wall. But what was the most unbelievable thing about the morning was the person holding her against the wall. If dragons ever grew legs and arms and appeared to be humanoid then that would be this guy, he looked back and locked eyes with Grey. The dragon man's eyes were slitted like that of a cat's and had no white in them. The color that surrounded the black slits was a shade of a sickly yellow green. Which did not complement his scaly bright orange hide. His head and back were also covered in spines that were tipped with crimson splotches. His backside was not just covered in spines, he also had a tail, which was where the spines thinned out and ended in a "V" that resembled a back fin of a airplane. It had been seconds and he let go of Grey's mother, she slid down against the wall, her neck covered in lacerations due to the fact that his fingers were orange sharpened knives. The dragon man turned to Grey and walked up to him, Grey was frozen and did not want to have his face ripped off, the dragon's mouth opened slowly which showed small sharp butter yellow teeth. His gums were black and slick like one who had gingivitus and let the disease consume their gums with tar. His tounge fit his mouth very well since it was long, thin, and forked, what seemed odd was that his tounge was red like a normal person's would be. After enough silent torture the dragon spoke "Time to wake up." it whispered and rushed in and bit his neck. He blacked out. The dragon man took Grey's mother and darted out through the enormous hole. Grey's body was left there on the dark oak hardwood floor, his neck had a large bite mark that trailed off like black veins. A gust of wind rolled in through the hole and foot steps could be heard from Grey's position, "He beat us here!" a teen boy exclaimed.
